Inspired Bites: Cinco De Mayo!

Cinco de Mayo embraces all things festive, fun, & food oriented.  The holiday is celebrated in Mexico for the Mexican Army’s victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.  However, it has taken on a greater significance here in the states as a celebration of Mexican-American culture.

Here at 12 Street Catering, Mexican inspired dishes and foods are just one of the many ethnic cuisines that we have researched, cultivated and executed with flair, fun and favor.  In honor of this approaching holiday with its celebratory meaning and colorful, exciting, complex flavors imparted to us by our neighbors ‘to the South’, we would like to share some new ‘twists’ we have put on the classic Guacamole (Get ready to be GUAC-ified)!

RECIPE HIGHLIGHT: Melon Margarita

Mexico is home to a myriad of fresh, tropical and citrus fruits. They are incorporated into Mexican cuisine in a variety of unusual and clever ways. Here’s a simple yet elegant recipe for a Melon Margarita. Enjoy!

2 Cups Sweet & Sour Mix (chilled)

1 Cup Tequila

½ Cup Midori Melon Liqueur

2 Tbs. Fresh Lime Juice

Honey Dew Melon (for garnish)

Blend first 4 ingredients together and stir. Pour over cubed or crushed ice or puree In blender with ice for a frozen margarita. Garnish with piece of honeydew melon.

*Note: Use leftover melon for fruit salad or cut into pieces and add 1 cup of cut honeydew to the recipe and blend in food processor for added melon flavor!

Margarita glasses can be rimmed with sugar or salt (optional)
